Stray dog captured by MBKS tests positive for Rabies

KUCHING: A black stray dog that was recently captured by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has tested positive for Rabies.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the results were confirmed by the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS).

According to him, the dog had bitten nine victims.

“With regret, we would like to announce that the black dog that was caught, has tested positive for rabies.

“It was tested at the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory by DVSS,” he said in a Facebook post last night (May 2).

Last Sunday (Apr 30), Wee said council employees and volunteers from Save Our Strays Kuching captured the canine after a lengthy chase involving two vehicles.

The following day (May 1), he said the council was informed that two other stray dogs were previously seen mingling around with the rabies-positive dog.

They were notified of the matter after monitoring around RH Plaza and talking to several food operators.

“Following that, the council’s dog unit team managed to capture the two strays at Jia Jia Food Court, RH Plaza.

“The dogs will be taken to DVSS for rabies sampling,” Wee said.-NEWS SARAWAK TRIBUNE
